Time for change, says Northumberland Labour

People want and need a change after 13 years of a Tory government, says Northumberland Labour.

Leader Scott Dickinson said: “The legacy of government should ask a number of questions. Do people feel better off? Is the country in a better state than it was when they came into power?

“Sadly for both of those questions, the answer is no. Many people are feeling much worse off; food banks have become the norm in one of the richest countries in the world, hospital waiting lists are at an all-time high, and water companies can pay their executives millions while they get away with polluting our rivers and seas, there aren’t enough police to deal with crime and make people feel safe on the streets and the costs of living are making life a challenge for many people.

“This is not a legacy to be proud of; it’s a legacy to be ashamed of. Make no mistake about it, this is the result of political choices. The political choices made by this government have let down the people they were elected to serve.

“The role of government is to take care of people. This government is failing that most basic test, spending more time back-biting and thinking about itself than the people who voted it in. A Labour government will never put itself before the people who elect it.”

A Labour government will:

  • ensure the country has the highest sustained growth in the G7 (the group of seven countries representing around half of the world’s economic output);

  • shift to preventative healthcare and an NHS fit for the future;

  • cut bills and create jobs by transitioning to zero-carbon electricity by 2030;

  • make Britain’s streets safer and lowering violent crime;

  • ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their potential.
