Reverse Robin Hood budget a slap in the face for ordinary people
Northumberland Labour says the Chancellor’s budget announcements are a total slap in the face for Northumbrians.
Leader Scott Dickinson said: “We are still in a period of mourning for the late Queen where we saw the country come together to mark the passing of a remarkable, dedicated woman who served her country for seven decades.
“In the very same week, we’ve seen the poor being robbed to reward the rich in what is basically an experiment to see if trickle down economics works. It doesn’t and history has proved that.
“In the meantime, all the previous Prime Minister’s fine words about levelling up have crumbled into dust. I honestly don’t know how these people sleep at night when they are quite happy to subject millions of ordinary people to a life of struggle so they can reward a few already very well-off people. The county is less equal than it’s ever been and this will only get worse, with thousands of human casualties. It’s truly shameful.
“Labour believes the answer is paying people properly for the work they do, putting the time, effort and resources into supporting our fabulous NHS and social care who we were only on our doorsteps clapping for a couple of years ago.
“The Tories want to throw money at energy companies and borrow even more money to pay us to soften the energy cost blow; money that we will as taxpayers will have to find in future years. Labour wants to employ people to insulate homes to make them greener and cut down on energy use and build the homes that people need.
“The government must hold ordinary people, the people they are supposed to be serving and many of who switched allegiances and voted for them, in utter contempt.”
