Children’s Recovery Plan will ensure very child can bounce back from the pandemic

Northumberland Labour is backing the Children’s Recovery Plan to give children opportunities to learn, play and develop.

Leader Scott Dickinson said: Labour’s plan is the result of listening to teachers and parents about what’s needed to help our children recover from the impact of the pandemic.

“The plans includes providing small group tutoring, extending breakfast clubs and an expanded programme of after school activities, from music to sport and book clubs, responding to parents’ concerns by giving every child new opportunities to socialise and helping tackle childcare costs.

Assistant Shadow Cabinet Member for Childrens Service Cllr Angie Scott said: “Labour would also invest in a mental health lead for each school and ongoing professional development for teachers to ensure that every child’s education is supported by world class teaching.

“The handling of the pandemic has had a huge impact on schools, teachers and children. We owe it to children and families to put every effort into ensuring they not only recover but thrive at school.”
