Buy local, buy Northumbrian, says Labour

Nationally Labour wants to make, sell and buy more in Britain. But Northumberland Labour wants to go one step further.

When led by Labour, Northumberland County Council introduced the Produced in Northumberland scheme which aimed to let people know about the many local people and businesses producing quality food and drink right on our doorstep.

Northumberland Labour leader Scott Dickinson says: “When we launched the scheme were were bowled over with the number of local business people who are producing quality meats, cheeses, bread, biscuits and cakes as well as soft drinks, gin, jams and chutneys.

“These people are dedicated to good quality local produce and making it available to local people. Goods like this bought in the county means the money stays in the county, improving the local economy.

“Whether it’s supporting your local milk producer or baker, or just taking a bit of time to see what’s available, I think people living in Northumberland will be pleasantly surprised at the range of fantastic food produced here in the county.

“Food and drink produced locally is also better for the environment, cutting down on transport. Many of these companies also do home deliveries, so people don’t even need to go across the doorstep.

“I would encourage everyone living in the county to have a look at the list and take advantage of what our wonderful county has to offer.”
