Concerns over “sizeable” input from Community Policing at HMP Northumberland


I raised concerns last year covered by The Journal about the level of Blue Light Services being sucked out of the Community and into the Private Prison. That was based on information from NEAS data which was given to me as Chair of Northumberland’s Health and Wellbeing at the time by someone who’d requested it. Now I remain concerned this report from Community Beat Manager clearly shows that Community Policing is being sucked in off our streets into a Prison that didn’t need that support at this level before being privatised. PC Paul Dent said that calls to HMP Northumberland are keeping police busy, adding: “The volume is getting sizeable. I am there most days.” Other than that, he said it had been a reasonably quiet month crime-wise, but there was a shoplifting incident at the Co-op and a window put out along Chevington Green.
