Academies, Core Strategy and housing overload.......
In recent weeks we have seen Northumberland Tories scrap investment planned by Labour in Northumberland Schools.
Recently the Amble Tory seemed to suggest schools needed to be an Academy to receive investment.
Below is an extract from a newspaper reporting his comments.
He also refers to the Amble School investment and says "there are no current plans for JCSC" therefore it would appear that the plans worked on they have no intention of pursuing.
Furthermore he says that all the investment plans are to be carried out in priority order. This must be why commitments were given for Ponteland and Morpeth without hesitation.
We've not got a new situation.......
With the Tory withdrawal of the Core Strategy leaving the Council and Communities powerless 2000 homes are set to be approved.
Hundreds more for Amble......
Hundreds more in a Town where they have stopped investment in the infrastructure like our schools and places won't be able to cope.
Just in Amble in particular:
Where's the Queen Street Car Park to support high street shopping and Hotel development which was to create new jobs and enhanc the accommodation offer in the area, all these promised and agreed by Labour but stopped or delayed by the Tories.
Thousands of houses across the South East of Northumberland where job creation projects, parks and school developments all stopped.
It's all mixed up it really doesn't make any sense.....looks like we are set for years of this too. As the timeline for a resubmition will be roughly 2yrs at the earliest.
So the questions must be:
1) is the policy now to force Academy status on Schools in Northumberland which is effectively privatisation?
2) Is public money to be invested in only Academy schools?
3) What happened to the pledge of halting the "March of Developers" did the small print say only in Ponteland and Morpeth?
4) Do they have any plans for Economic Growth and Job Creation now they've withdrawn the plan specifically if they expect places to take all these houses?
